Job Purpose


Provide support to the development and implementation of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and the conducting of daily activities in the environmental radiochemistry laboratory to maintain program standards and ensure alignment with best practices. Prepare required reports and support documentation for regulatory and record keeping purposes to ensure compliance with regulations and requirements.

Key Activities, Responsibility & Accountability

Activity:
Processes and Procedures
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Contribute in the development of required laboratory procedures including drafting, reviewing, and verifying procedures to ensure there are controlled documents that address how the processes are to be carried out correctly with regard to best practices.
•Use the Lab Information Management System (LIMS) to support lab operations.
•Support installation of lab and site equipment to allow for effective sample preparation.
•Support implementation of the LIMS to maintain program standards and ensure the availability of a platform to record learnings relative to experience.

Reporting
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Prepare all required reports for regulatory and record-keeping purposes.
•Prepare related documents provided to outside regulatory authorities like Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) to ensure regulatory compliance.

Environmental Radiochemistry Laboratory Planning
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Support the planning for routine activities such as procedure revisions and shipment of inter-laboratory samples to keep laboratory operating efficiently.
•Support the planning and management of the storage of environmental samples to keep laboratory operating efficiently.

Environmental Radiochemistry Laboratory Operations
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Support all daily activities of the laboratory by performing hands-on activities to keep laboratory operating efficiently.
•Oversee and participate in environmental sample collection and transport to inform laboratory analysis.
•Support emergency preparedness and offsite authorities including Central Testing Lab (CTL) by performing environmental radiological sample analysis when needed
•Provide proper Corrective Action of all issues discovered in the program to ensure adherence to best practices.
•Control access to the LIMS and review and audit the system to maintain program standards.
•Prepare and conduct all laboratory and field sample analysis to support quality and accuracy.

Radiation Protection Duties (If assigned as a Radiation Protection Officer)
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Carry out the duties related to the safe use of radioactive materials within the Environmental Radiochemistry Laboratory (ERL) including the required training for ERL personnel.
•Conduct inspections and housekeeping audits of work areas where handling of radioactive materials occurs and reviews all contamination surveys of all ERL areas to ensure an appropriate response is initiated for any identified contamination.
•Maintain an inventory of all the radioactive standards and check sources possessed by the ERL and ensures secure and safe storage of all radioactive materials, standards and check sources.
•Ensure ERL radiation survey instruments are in proper working order and are readily available.

Preferred
•Certified ISO 17025 Internal Auditor / SCUBA Diving certification.

Qualifications

Minimum
•Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Physics, Biology or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
•3 years of relevant experience.

Or equivalent as stated in the Job Description Procedure (HR-PRC-0004).

Preferred
•Master of Science degree in Radiochemistry or Radiobiology or field related to nuclear radiochemistry.
•5 years technical lab experience, out of which:
- 2 years of experience in a radiological environmental laboratory handling nuclear power plant required analysis.

Experience
